Ralph R. Simpson (b. 1933) born in Birmingham, Alabama, he started playing the organ at a young age. Simpson received his bachelor of music at Alabama State University in 1954, masters of arts at Columbia University with Thomas Richner, Henry Cowell, Norman Coke-Jephcott in 1957, and a PhD at Michigan State University in 1964.  While he has held the position of professor and organist in Alabama, Louisiana, and Tennessee, Simpson produced recordings of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, Anguished American Easter, and Three pieces for Organ, A Diversity of Riches.
